David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Wigan Away
Posted by southstander on July 15 2007 - 11:32:16

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Read more here....

Here are Davids thoughts about Thursday's away game against Wigan;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb6Showed a fallibility under the high ball not seen so far this season. At fault for Colbon's try too - not his best night.
2Donald7Pretty nondescript game on the whole - no big play, no big error - pretty solid.
3Toopi8 Amazingly he didn't drop a ball all night - very solid defence once again - I would just like to see him offer a bit more going forward.
4Senior5After a pretty solid game last week Keith reverted back to the form he has shown all season - twice he failed to play the ball correctly - criminal for an international player.
25Hall8Showed Webb the way to take the high ball in these conditions - ran the ball in aggressively - still showed elements of inexperience but on a night when very few shone Ryan was as good as anyone and therefore my MOM
6McGuire6Dropped the ball a couple of times in the first half and was pretty anonymous offensively - defended well throughout the game - would like to see his tackle stats.
7Burrow6Like McGuire pretty impotent going forward but defended well - when you say your half backs' high points are their defence you know you have had a poor night.
16Bailey5Pretty routinue Bailey performance - miss a few tackles, get knocked back in the collision and gave a couple of penalties away.
13Sinfield7Tried hard but wasted at 9 - he has more to offer than a pass from the dummy half - Smith please take note.
10Peacock6Sadly Fielden has Jamie in his pocket - did not want to know going forward - hopefully McClennan can spark Jamie back into some decent form.
11Jones Buchanan6Another one guilty of being unable to play the ball correctly - looks tired to me and in need of rest.
18Kirke6Big pat on the back for playing with a broken nose - was it justified on what Ian produced on the field - he was not alone amongst the Rhinos forwards in that respect.
12Ellis8One of the few rhinos forwards to come out of the game with any credit - his sin-binning in the second half showed his frustration of the way things had gone on the night.
14Lauitiiti5Hardly any game time as Ali broke down once again - It would suggest this is not going to be Ali's season - roll on 2008 things can only get better.
15Thackray7Another forward guilty of ball retention problems - conditions did not suit his style of play. Not sure how fit he really is either?
17Scruton6I like the way he gives it everything, runs with real energy and hits the line at pace after Thackray our best prop
23Tansey6Not his night - it happens with young players - is he a nine - not sure about that - If Smith is going to persist with Sinfield at nine I would play Jordan at 13.
