David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Wigan in the Cup
Posted by southstander on May 13 2007 - 20:37:21

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are Davids thoughts about saturdays Cup exit to Wigan;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb8My MOM - had a very polished game - took he try well and didn't deserve to be on a losing side.
2Donald7Out of position for Calderwood's try that apart Scott had a solid game - remarkable given he played outside Toopi.
3Toopi6 Sadly the poor handling of a few weeks back returned - at least 3 dropped passes that he should have caught. Unfortunately with no cover Clinton will be selected poor form or not.
4Senior7Keith worked very hard unfortunately his ageing body doesn't carry the attacking threat it once did.
20Smith6Not his best game - the dropped ball at the end summed up his afternoon - I'll be amazed if he plays against Hull
6McGuire6Worked his socks off but things failed to happen for him on the day. Don't understand why he didn't try and beat Ashton when he was through one on one.
7Burrow7Similar to McGuire no lack of effort just one of the days when he didn't get the rewards his endeavours deserved.
8Leuleui5Was he one the field - if he was I failed to note a single positive from his performance.
9Diskin7No lack of desire from Matt but the knee injury has badly effected his mobility and theefore his contribution.
10Peacock7No way Jamie was anything like fit - he struggled to impose himself on the game - one of a number of ineffective Leeds forwards.
11Jones-Buchanan8Carried on from last week - immense physical effort - never stopped - like Webb didn't deserve to be on a losing side.
12Ellis6His first poor game of the season - Gareth looked tired - he missed a lot of tackles and should have caught the pass from Smith.
13Sinfield7Like a few Leeds players things just didn't go his way - it happens. Tried his heart out but could raise his team to the standard required on the day
14Lauitiiti5Yet another unfit player who should not have taken the field - his knee needs sorting out once and for all..
15Thackray7Jamie's ball retention was once again found wanting to compound that by giving away a penalty in the next set clouded what had been a pretty good outing.
18Kirke6Ineffective unfortunately but Ian wasn't out of place in the Leeds pack on that score.
16Bailey6For Bailey see Kirke same comments apply - how fit Ryan was only him and Tony know.
