Rhinos off to Fev
Posted by Number 2 on January 19 2007 - 14:01:31

Moyles Stadium

By Matthew Horton

Sunday sees the Rhinos take a step back in time as they travel to Post Office Road to take on Featherstone Rovers in the third game of the 2007 pre-season campaign. It will be the Rhinos first visit since the 48-12 Challenge Cup victory in February 2000.

We preview the game here

After what has been described as a successful training camp in Dublin, the Rhinos will finally arrive back in Leeds sometime today after getting an extra night on the Emerald Isle thanks to the horrendous weather conditions that have hit the North of England in the past few days.

Tony Smith has named a strong starting line up with 9 of the starting XIII currently in the first team squad. Kyle Briggs, Mike Ratu, Steve Brooke and Michael Brown the players who step up into the side from the Senior Academy set up. Clinton Toopi gets a run in the centre and Jamie Thackray keeps up his 100% appearance record in pre-season so far. England props Ryan Bailey and Nick Scruton are also in the run on side as the Rhinos look to keep up their unblemished pre-season record so far. Brent Webb was to have made a brief appearance from the interchange bench, but picked up a slight knock over in Ireland and will not be risked by the coaching staff.

Leeds: Smith, Hall, Toopi, Ratu, Williams, Briggs, Tansey, Bailey, Kaye, Scruton, Thackray, Brooke, M Brown. Interchange to be named.

This will also be Featherstone’s third game of what has been a busy pre-season so far. They were victorious against local rivals Castleford 14-10 at the Jungle on Boxing Day before scraping past fellow National League 2 side Blackpool Panthers 24-22 last weekend. They have made some quality additions to their squad through the winter with Paul Handforth and Tom Haughey joining from Castleford, and goal kicking prop (tut tut) Stuart Dickens has returned after a spell with the Salford City Reds.

The Featherstone squad is Stuart Dickens, Ian Tonks, Dale Cardoza, Jamie Benn, Richard Blakeway, Danny Kirmond, Moss, Wayne McHugh, Gavin Swinson, Paul Hughes, James Houston, Andy Speak, Steve Dooler, Paul Handforth, Jon Whittle, Tommy Haughey, Gareth Handford, Chris Ross, James Ward, Bower, Brian Sutton, Wynne, Wilson.

Tickets prices for the game are priced £10 Adult, £5 OAP and £3 for Children and it’s pay on the gate. When in the ground take a trip over to the family stand side and the Blue Lagoon bar where the ale is piled high and very cheap with all profits going to help the Featherstone Rovers Independent Supporters Association. The prices and 1st drink free offer have been mentioned on the message board. With the stadium being renamed after Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, the self proclaimed “Saviour of Radio 1” will actually be attending the game.

Rhinos 40 10 Rovers

The weather forecast isn’t clever. Wrap up warm and take a brolly, if it rains I can guarantee your going to get a soaking if your stood up and the only cover is available for the seats..
