rhinoms Superleague XX Previews - Round 20
Posted by southstander on July 02 2015 - 06:10:47

by rhinoms

When the fixture 'computer' spewed out its Super League Round Twenty it must have known that we would be in for a belter.

With the Wolves playing the Warriors on Thursday and the Rhinos hosting the Saints a night later there can be fewer rounds as appealing the the hardened fan and passive neutral alike. There are plenty of other intrigueing match-ups up and down the table and at this stage of the season any of them could spring a surprise.

We take a look ahead to this weekends action here.....

After a week off for the Challenge Cup Quarter Finals the regular Super League season resumes and this week we hit Round 20 and itís still very much all to play for in the race for the top eight with first playing second the stand out fixture.

Here are this weeks previews.

WOLVES v. WARRIORS

The 3rd place Pies visit the stuttering Wire with a top two spot still firmly in their sights whereas the best the hosts can achieve before the split is 4th.

The visitors have had an extra week to prepare as the Wolves fought their way through to the CC semis but picked up another big injury.

Games between these 2 are rarely dull and played at break neck speed so expect an entertaining encounter with plenty of points and full bloodied challenges.

Home advantage usually has a big say when 2 genuine GF challengers meet but Wires injuries and inconsistency nullifies that.

I expect a battling effort from the host but I donít think they have enough quality to get the win this week.

RHINOS v. SAINTS

Itís 1st v 2nd at HQ as the STís visit the table topping Blue n Amber.

This could be the game of the season so far and after the Rhinos destroyed the visitors on their own patch earlier in the year the plastic scousers will have revenge in mind.

Itís unfortunate that both teams have 1st choice players missing but it shouldnít detract from a high octane clash.

With Pace, Power, Youth and big game Experience amongst the ranks of both squads it promises to be a belter.

It will be close and could go either way but I think the hosts hold the edge out-wide and that will prove vital on a fast track.

TIGERS v. VIKINGS

The Tigers will be chomping at the bit to get back into action after their enforced weeks rest.

Having beaten the top 2 in successive weeks prior to the CC break the hosts will be supremely confident when the battered and Brown-less Vikings visit.

Despite having a good dig in their CC defeat losing their talisman has effectively ended the visitors season in terms of a top 8 challenge and the last thing they needed was a trip to the jungle.

It may be a contest for an hour but I expect the Tiggers to bear their claws and rip into the Vikings taking the points comfortably & maintain their top 4 challenge.

GIANTS v. KR

4th meets 8th as the Giants welcome CC semi-finalist the Robins.

The big question for the visitors are they mentally strong enough to challenge on 2 fronts especially with some key injuries?

For the hosts they will be fresh after a week off and only have a top 4 spot to play for which makes them strong favourites.

It will be an entertaining game the visitors will come to try and attack as they donít know any other way but I doubt they have the defensive strength to stop the Giants and I think the mid-week game in hand will eventually catch up with them.

FC v. WILDCATS

Although the visitors are improving I donít think theyíll have enough to get the win at the KC especially after their mid-week exploits against the same opponents.

The only hope the B&Wís have for anything positive from 2015 is a top 8 spot and a decent crack at the play offs but itís looking like yet another poor season despite ownership promises.

The hosts defence should be too tough on their own patch and I doubt Wakey can repeat such a positive mid-week performance.

DEVILS v. DRAGONS

Itís just not happening for the mouthy Dr and his expensive flops but we also know the Dragons donít like to travel.

If the home side can start well then the visitors will struggle because we all know they just donít have the heart for a tough battle when they go a couple of scores down away from home.

I sense an upset in a tough game but ultimately the Dragons travel sickness wonít be cured this week.

If you are travelling to a game have a safe journey and enjoy the action.
